When asked why he didn’t make political statements, Michael Jordan famously said: “Republicans buy shoes, too.”

Good point, Michael. But if the goal of this website is to encourage people to buy my books, then I may not be doing myself any favors by trashing Trump and his Band of Idiots in these blogs.

But I’m going to do it anyway. Here’s why:

• Our democracy is in grave danger. It’s not imminent; it’s already here. Speaking out on this puny little platform is my way of joining the chorus yelling “Fuck ICE and Steven Miller, too.”

• I can’t by worried about book sales. The average American hasn’t read a book for leisure in over a decade. Of the minority who do read for leisure, most are Democrats, who tend to be better educated as well. Democrats also tend to read at a higher grade level. These are facts, not opinions. And besides, Republican readers tend to read or listen to books by their political or cultural favorites. And unlike Michael Jordan, I’m not afraid to take a stand. Maybe I’ll feel differently if I start getting Air Jordan kind of sales numbers.
